Delores G. Webb, D.C., 61st Keeler Recipient

Born in Abilene, Texas, on December 21, 1930, to parents Gladys Scott Bullock and Charles Madison, Bullock, the oldest of three children: Wilford Dean Bullock and Norman Lee Cruson.  Her father died when she was six years old and her mother married Myron Cruson and moved to the Panhandle oil fields.  Attended public school in Spring Creek, Texas, graduating salutatorian.  Moved back to Abilene and subsequently moved to Placedo, Texas, where she completed high school.  Married Melvin Lee, a rancher and rice farmer.

In 1958-1959, attended Draughn’s Business College in Abilene and eventually moved to Midland, Texas, to work for Velma Scott D.C.  Prior to employment with Dr. Scott, had been periodically plagued with severe low back pain and at age 18 was paralyzed from the waist down for three months.  Finding this situation difficult to accept would sit in her wheelchair and lift her legs as high as she could and then drop them.  Eventually she could walk again with periodic, temporary bouts of paralysis.  Dr. Scott x-rayed and diagnosed Grade I spondylolishtesis (acquired at age 12 in an accident).  Chiropractic adjustments were initiated with no further episodes of being bedridden.

The decision to become a Doctor of Chiropractic was the direct result of the above and the realization by Dr. Scott of the intense interest in Chiropractic by her employee.  Therefore, Dr. Scott fired her “with the understanding that you go all the way and attend Chiropractic College.”  Enrolled in Texas Chiropractic College in January 1960.  Was difficult finding employment to accommodate class hours so worked for the next four years as a PBX operator and waitress.  Upon completing her Chiropractic education in 1966, opened a practice in El Paso, Texas.

“Chiropractic has been my life for 36 years, and it is difficult to remember a time without it.  I feel honored to have been a part of this wonderful profession, and I thank God daily for that little lady who said, ‘you’re fired. You must go all the way’.  Words cannot possibly express my gratitude and appreciate to the Keeler Plaque Committee for nominating me for the Keeler Plaque Recipient, 1994."
