I was born in Dequincy, Louisiana May 11, 1927 to Sherrell E. and Denise B. Otis Isdale. My only brother, Sherrell E. Isdale Jr. was killed in a military plane crash in the Philippine Islands in December 1950.
When I was nine, my family moved to San Antonio, I attended San Antonio Public Schools, graduating from San Antonio Vocational and Technical High School in 1944. While in high school I was a member of the National Honor Society and was a major in the R.O.T.C. I earned the Eagle Scout Award in the Boy Scouts of America. After high school graduation, I joined the navy and attended Torpedoman’s School. I was honorably discharged as a coxswain in 1946.
Following discharge, I returned to be with my parents, who had moved to Killeen, Texas. My mother had been ill for many years but medical care had not found the cause or cure for her problems. A local Killeen Chiropractor had worked miracles for my Mom, inspiring me to go in the direction of my life’s chosen field of service. I attended Texas Chiropractic College under the G. I. Bill, graduating in January 1949. My first clinic was opened in Killeen upon graduation.
In January of the following year, I met my future bride on a blind date. I married Jeanne Rhodes of Temple, Texas in March 1950. We became the parents of five sons – Sherrell E. (Skip), Scott Edward, Stanley Eugene, Stuart Evan and Shawn Erwin. The beautiful ladies my sons married have presented us with thirteen wonderful grandchildren, who are the apple of my eye.
Four of my sons became chiropractors. Scott and Shawn practice with me in our Killeen Clinic. Skip is in solo practice in Temple, Stan’s clinic is in Harker Heights and Stuart works with the Texas Education Agency.
Upon graduation, I became a member of the Texas Chiropractic Association (TSCA at that time) and later joined the American Chiropractic Association. I have remained an active member in good standing throughout the years.
I served as Vice President, President and District Director of District 8 of T.C.A. and as District 8 State Director. I have served on membership, ethics and legislative committees and as a member of Peer Review. I was founding member of the Bell County and Tri-County Chiropractic Societies and have served as Director for both organizations.
I have earned certificates in continuing education in Roentgenology, Physical Therapy, Kinesiology and the activator method. I have been a member of the Parker Foundation and Pinnacle Group out of Tulsa, Oklahoma. I have been a member of the High Country Knights of the Chiropractic Round Table since 1980. Dr. Gene Buttoner of Colorado Springs, Colorado issued the invitation for membership. In 1994, Governor Ann Richards appointed me to serve on the Texas Board of Chiropractic Examiners.
In community affairs, I have been a member of The Greater Killeen Chamber of Commerce since 1950. As a member, I have served on Military Affairs and Governmental Affairs Committees. I have been active politically in local, state and national affairs. I served as Secretary, Vice-president and President of Killeen Kiwanis International. I am a member of the Association of the United States Army and represented my chapter in Washington, D.C. at their annual meeting two consecutive years.
I was elected to serve four two-year terms on the Killeen City Council and was appointed by the mayor to serve on the Regional Airport Committee. I served seven years as a member of the Board of Directors of the First National Bank of Killeen, resigning in 1987.
I am a Master Mason and Past Worthy Patron of the Order of the Eastern Star. I attend First Baptist Church in Killeen. My entire life revolves around serving my God, my family and my profession.
Receiving the Keeler Plaque during the 1995 Centennial Year of our great profession has been the highlight of my career, for which I am humbly grateful.
