Marino M. Mihovil, D.C., 8th Keeler Recipient

Dr. Marino M. Mihovil graduated from the Palmer School of Chiropractic March 1923 with D.C. and Ph.C. Degrees.  He has practiced in Galveston the entire time since graduation.

He has headed the following organizations: Past Commander of the American Legion, World War I Veteran, Past Exalted Ruler of the Elks.  Is Past President of the Lions Club, also District Governor and now International Counsellor (one of the first in the United States with MDs in my Cabinet), Chairman of Council of Governors, making a speech in Madison Square Garden, New York for Herb C. Petrey, Jr., and now Chairman of the State Highway Department Past General Chairman of Community Chest, County Chairman for March of Dimes two years.

He started the project “Know Your America” with the Galveston Chamber of Commerce and has been the only Chairman of the Committee for eight consecutive years.  Receiving National Honors – the highest award for six years, not matched by any Community anywhere.  Latest award received from the Chamber of Commerce November 29, 1961, at a Public Banquet of 600 Civic Leaders with the following parchment framed award:

“In appreciation – Award of Merit for Outstanding Service, Dr. M. M. Mihovil, who served faithfully and efficiently as Chairman of the; Know Your america Week Committee of the Galveston Chamber of Commerce, for seven consecutive years.  His leadership brought National attention to Galveston with six Gold Medal Awards, one case award and one certificate of Merit from the Freedoms Foundation of Valley Forge."

He has attended the Harding College, Search, Arkansas for the freedom Forum with Conferees from most of the States.  Has been on TV as an expert of the Communist Menace and was quizzed in an hour long show by Senior Students of Ball High School of Galveston.

He is Past President of the Texas State Chiropractic Association, past member of the Board of Examiners of 1943, and the first president of the Board.  Has appeared as speaker before high school football banquets, women clubs, civic clubs, and high schools lecturing on Americanism.

He has done post-graduate work in classes of Thomas B. Lake in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania – Carl Loeb of Chicago, Illinois – DeJarnette and about every traveling instructor, who ever visited Texas.

His hobbies are photography boating, golf and now bowling.  In December 1959 he bowled the only perfect game of 300 in Galveston.  He won State Lions Club Singles Tournament in Houston in 1959 and many others too numerous to mention.

His family consists of his wife, Thelma, a son, M. M. Jr., and a daughter Llu (sic) and two grandsons.  He has two cousins, one is an MD ear and nose specialist in San Antonio and the other is a dentist in San Diego, California.

He was awarded the Keeler Plaque in 1941 for outstanding service to chiropractic.

Dr. Marino Mario Mihovil was born on 27 December 1899, in Galveston, Galveston, Texas, He married Marguerite Pinto on 27 December 1926, in McLennan, Texas, United States. He registered for military service in 1918. He died on 8 April 1976, in Galveston, Galveston, Texas, United States, at the age of 76, and was buried in Hitchcock, Galveston, Texas, United States.
