Walter H. Fischer, D.C., 9th Keeler Recipient

Dr. Fischer was born at Buckholts, Milam County, Texas on January 19, 1906.  He attended Buckholts Public Schools and later Texas Chiropractic College from which he graduated May 20, 1929.  After practicing in Sequin, Houston and Bartlett he located in Temple June 28, 1933.

On October 11, 1934, the vivacious and very attractive Miss Nell Houghton Beard joined him in marriage.  They were blessed with two fine daughters, Martha and Nell Gero.

Among his civic activities are the Chamber of Commerce; Kiwanis Club President, 1944; Elks Lodge Exalted Ruler, 1943-44; and six years as President of the Church Council of the First Lutheran Church 32nd Degree Mason and Shriner.

After serving on various committees, State Director and District President of TSCA, he was honored with the Presidency of TSCA in 1947 of which he later resigned when the Board of Directors so advised in order that he might devote full time to the Public Health and Legislative Program.  He has served as either Director or Chairman on our Educational Program for five years.

In 1949 he was appointed to the Texas Board of Chiropractic Examiners.  He is still active in Kiwanis, serving at present as Chairman of the Public and Business Affairs Committee of Division 23.  He served as Church Treasurer in 1961.  He is Past President of the Central Texas Sportsman’s Club in which capacity he served three consecutive terms. He is serving his second term as Chairman of the Bell County Chapter of the American Red Cross.

In 1942 he was awarded the Keeler Plaque for outstanding service to chiropractic.

Dr. Walter H Fischer was issued license number 1151 on September 1, 1949.

Walter Henry Fischer was born on 19 January 1906. He married Nell Houghten Beard on 11 October 1934, in Temple, Bell, Texas, United States. They were the parents of at least 1 daughter. He lived in Justice Precinct 6, Milam, Texas, United States for about 10 years and Justice Precinct 5, Bell, Texas, United States in 1940. He died on 5 August 1982, in Temple, Bell, Texas, United States, at the age of 76, and was buried in Hillcrest Cemetery, Temple, Bell, Texas, United States.
