Wayne W. Lundburg, D.C., 59th Keeler Recipient

I was born October 17, 1917 at Idaho Falls, Idaho.  I attended school in Idaho Falls, graduating in 1935.  I attended college at Pocatello, Idaho where football seemed to be my sport, although I also played a lot of baseball, including pro-ball in the Pioneer League, prior to military service in the Naval Air Corp.  I was discharged honorably in September 1945.

I served some 3 1/2 years with the Idaho State Police, leaving the organization to attend Texas Chiropractic College, graduating with high honors in 1953.

I continued to follow baseball in various towns.  While in the service, I toiled on the pitcher’s mound for three years.  While I played some pro baseball and was selected to start an All-Star game on the 4th of July – three years running – against a team of All Stars from Mexico.

I practiced in Logan, Utah from 1954 - 1957, returning to Cisco, Texas in mid-1957 and then to Lubbock, Texas in 1959.  I have practiced at the same office ever since and enjoy this town and its people to this day.

I’ve been involved in church work, especially in organizing the men into a prayer group, and I have taught in Sunday School.

I was also involved in civic work: the Citizens Traffic Commission, South Plains Society of Safety Engineers, and Hillcrest Optimist Club.  In each organization I was chosen by the members to be President.

In the early 1960s, I worked diligently for and headed up several quad-district meetings.  In 1963 I obtained Lt. Governor Preston Smith as one of our speakers – this was a first in getting people of political stature to appear before chiropractors in this state.

I have worked with politicians from this section of Texas for more than 30 years and continue to do so to this day.

There have been many wonderful and involved activities during these many years, one of which was a presentation before the Board of Chiropractic Examiners, which was very instrumental in allowing orthopedic and neurological testing to be used in the chiropractic examination.  In 1992 I was chosen to be the recipient of the Keeler Plaque, an honor that I shall cherish forever.
