A member of the American Chiropractic Association and the Texas State Chiropractic Association, he served nine consecutive years in office. He served as District #11 secretary one year, vice president two years, president two years, State secretary two years, state president-elect one year and president one year. During his three years tenure as Department Head of the Labor and Industrial Relations Department, great strides in insurance, labor and attorney liaison relations were advanced; developing many programs started during his term as president, in which the state association’s insurance manual was published and seminars conducted with labor, insurance officials, and trial lawyers. He has been a member and chairman of numerous other committees. Having served on the Public Health Committee since 1964, he has worked vigorously in the Houston area netting the profession many staunch chiropractic supporters in the Legislature. He also chaired this committee for statewide political achievement.
April 1970, Governor Preston smith appointed him to the Board of Chiropractic Examiners to fill the unexpressed term of the late Dr. C. T. Harkey, starting in the chairs in 1972 as secretary. In 1964 Dr. Elliott was selected Texas Young Chiropractor of the year. He is the Keeler Plaque recipient for 1971.
He has over 500 hours of extension study in Radiology.
Besides being a member of the American Chiropractic Association and the Texas State Chiropractic Association. Dr. Elliott is also a member of the Parker Chiropractic Research Foundation, and the Texas and Logan Alumni clubs. He is a regular contributor to the chiropractic colleges and to chiropractic research.
Being extremely active in civic affairs, Dr. Elliott has twenty years of perfect attendance at the Dayton Rotary Club, serving all offices, including president. He is a charter member and commander of the Dayton American Legion Post #512; an eighteen year member of the Dayton Chamber of Commerce, serving as annual toastmaster. He is also a member of the Dayton Athletic Club, County Health Director for the Boy Scouts of America, a member of the Baytown Community Orchestra Committee, the Liberty County Crippled Children’s Society. Dr. Elliott is also a Pewee Baseball sponsor.
Dr. Elliott is a two-term member of the Dayton School Board. He has served as secretary and vice president and is now president of the Dayton School Board.
He serves his community and profession regularly as Master of Ceremonies and speaker at various community affairs.
A lifetime Democrat, he has served three terms as precinct chairman. He is a state delegate and local leader in numerous campaigns in the Governor’s race.
Dr. Elliott was chosen as Dayton’s leading Citizen June 29, 1969. He holds the honorary titles of Duke of Paducah, Paducah, Kentucky; Admiral of Toledo Bend; and Admiral of the Texas Navy. He is an honorary member of the Dayton Volunteer Fire Department.
A member of First Baptist Church of Dayton for 20 years, Dr. Elliott has served as Sunday School superintendent, Training Union leader chairman of Deacons, Church clerk and chairman of pulpit committees.
Dr. Elliott is a member of the Chapter and Council of the Masonic Order.
Dr. Elliott and his wife, Betty, moved to Dayton in 1952 where Dr. Elliott began his practice. Mrs. Elliott has also been very active in civic and professional affairs, serving all offices of the Texas State Chiropractic Association Women’s Auxiliary. Mrs. Elliott holds a teaching degree from the University of Houston and is serving o the State Health Department Advisory Council. The Elliotts have three sons, Steve, Terry and Vance: two of which plan to be chiropractors.
