A. A. Davenport, D.C., 22nd Keeler Recipient

I was born in Ranger, Texas, August 19, 1911.  I Attended Public Schools in Ranger and Weatherford and Ranger College.  I studied Pharmacy at St. Louis, Missouri and later became a traveling drug salesman in my home state of Texas.

During my travels I met and married Ruby Jo Butler of Howe, Texas.  Through my wife I met F. B. Young, a chiropractor at Sherman, Texas and became interested in Chiropractic.

I enrolled in Texas Chiropractic College in San Antonio, graduating in the summer of 1939.  Shortly after graduation we moved to Gainesville where I opened my first clinic.  I soon outgrew this clinic and late in 1953 I began to think of building a larger clinic.  Dedication services were held for a new eleven room clinic in March, 1954.

Early in my career I took an interest in public service and divided my time between community work and being a chiropractor.  Honors have been heaped upon me in each field since I first opened the clinic in Gainesville in October, 1939.  My community service has ranged all the way from being a Cub Master in Scouting to Ringmaster for Gainesville’s celebrated Community Circus.

Scattered through these 20 years as a chiropractor I have been: president of the Leopard Booster Club, Member of the City Planning Commission, Member of the Board of Texas Chiropractic College Foundation, Chairman of Educational Committee of the Texas Chiropractic Association, Texas Chairman of the NCA Committee on Industrial Relations, Vice president of Gainesville Shrine Club, Member of the Red River Chiropractic Association – twice president, a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason, Commander of the American Legion Post, Member of Board of Directors of the Chamber of Commerce and the Junior Chamber of Commerce, President of the Gainesville Kiwanis Club, Member of the Official Board of the First Methodist Church, Sunday School Teacher, President of the Gainesville Riding Club, President of the Boy’s Baseball Club Inc., Vice president of the Young Men’s Civic League, President of the Gainesville Community Circus and in 1946 I was named by the Junior Chamber of Commerce as the Outstanding Citizen of the Year and in 1955 I was awarded the Keeler Plaque by the Texas State Chiropractic Association upon being selected as Chiropractor of the Year.

Currently I am serving as Commodore of the Gainesville Board Club, Commander of Flotilla 56 of the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary and President of the Circus Round-up Association.
