Gerald M. Brassard, D.C., F.I.C.C., 32nd Keeler Recipient

Dr. Gerald M. Brassard of Beaumont, Texas, graduated from the Palmer College of Chiropractic in 1949 with the degree of D.C. and a diploma in Spinography, later he became staff doctor in the Bend Chiropractic Clinic in Dixon, Illinois.

His early education was acquired in Manchester, New Hampshire.  He attended Hesser College for 2-yerars and one year at Lamar Tech in Beaumont, Texas.  He was Clinic Director for Parker Clinic in Beaumont for three years.  He has had post-graduate work in Logan basic technique and is licensed to practice in Texas, Missouri, and New Hampshire.

He was married to May C. Murielle in September 1941, and to this union was born two sons, Richard G. and Raymond M. Richard is a 1965 Palmer College Graduate and has a degree of D.C.

Dr. Brassard served two and one-half years in the U.S. Navy 1943 to 1946.  He served two terms as President of the Texas Chiropractic Association, nine-years as President of the Board of Examiners.

As a member of the T.S.C.A., since 1949, he has served on many committees of the State Board and the State Association.  He is a Charter member of the American Chiropractic Association, presently serving as Texas ACA State Delegate; National Chairman on Political Education’ Austin Legislative Chairman for nine-years.  During this time he got chiropractic legislation passed with only one dissenting vote in the House and Senate.

As a member of the American Legion he has been active at many levels of the Veterans of Foreign Wars both at National Conventions and at the State level.  He helped organize and was chairman of the S. A. L. Squadron which became the largest in the nation.

Dr. Brassard has not neglected his church (Catholic) activities.  He has a continuous record of activity at every level possible for a layman.  He has received honor on many occasions by his church, his state association, the Boy Scouts, the YMCA, the Elks Lodge and was recent Chairman of the committee appearing in Washington in behalf of Medicare for Chiropractic.

He was honored by an invitation to President Kennedy’s and Lyndon B. Johnson’s Inaugural in Washington D.C.  He also received special invitation to Governor Conally’s Inaugural in 1963.

He is a member and past president of the Gavel Club, has served in all the chairs of District 9 of the TSCA as well as many committees of both the district and state association.  He is a member of the Sigma Chi Fraternity and was President of this group.  Dr. Brassard found time to be a member of the City Council of Beaumont for 4-years, prepared and promoted a $50,000 Youth Center at no charge to the City.  He is a member of the Young Democrats of Texas, named head of hospital panel of Beaumont for study and creating of hospital district; member of Beaumont chamber of Commerce, serving on many of its important committees; member of Lamar Tech Booster Club, Rod and Reel Club, Gun Club, Boat Club, Dale Carneigie Alumni, past President Square Dance Club, YMCA membership Roundup committee, member of Kiwanis Club of which he is past president, past Lt. Governor of Division #10, served on many committees as well as helping organize and charter other Kiwanis Clubs, now serving as chairman for Inter-club relations for Texas second Oklahoma Kiwanis. He is past District Deputy Grand Exhausted Ruler of the Elks Lodge and has served 5-years on the Board of Trustees, Delegate to Grand Body Convention, member of the Ritual Team, promoted Most Valuable Student Award at Elks National Youth Day.

He is past State Commander of Sons of Legion of the American Legion, served in many capacities on major Legion committees, delegate to the National convention for 5-years, member of 40 et 8 La Society of the Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Thornton Naval Veterans, American War Veterans, Catholic War Veterans, Knights of Columbus, 4th degree, Travelers Protective Association.

He has been honored with membership in the International College of Chiropractors, Chiropractor of the Year, Keeler Plaque by the TSCA.

As a member of a health agency the Texas House of Representatives passed a unanimous resolution commending him for high principles and service to the state.  He received from District 9 a plaque as the outstanding chiropractor for unselfish devotion to his profession.  He was honored by Elks with a citation for many worthy civic and fraternal activities.  He received a similar citation from Kiwanis.

He was honored by the YMCA as the top membership getter.  He also received the first citation ever given by the Elks for outstanding leadership in youth and community activities.

Brassard Chiropractic Clinic was awarded a citation by Beaumont in 1963.  Dr. Brassard’s activities in the public interest in the short 16 years he has resided in Beaumont border on the incredible because during this time he has found time to be Father, Husband, and Doctor; to this his family and patients can fully attest.

God has said “serve me by serving my people and you shall not go unrewarded.”  Many stars and riches are the treasurers that this good and noble doctor has earned for himself.
