The first licensed Black Chiropractor of Texas, Rev. Romanuel Washington, Jr., DC, was licensed in Texas May 12, 1951, just a couple of years after Texas Chiropractic Act was enacted. Dr. Washington passed away on April 12, 2023.
Dr. Washington attended the International Chiropractic College in Dayton, Ohio and graduated on May 1, 1951. Dr. Washington was a pioneer in the chiropractic community by being the first licensed black chiropractor in the state of Texas and the last surviving, founding member of the American Black Chiropractic Association (ABCA), whose purpose is to spread awareness of the benefits of chiropractic care in the African American community.
Dr. Washington was active in his community and also served as an associate minister at Fourth Missionary Baptist Church in Houston’s Third Ward.
Dr. Washington is a beloved figure in the Texas chiropractic community and his contributions to that legacy will live on through the lives he impacted and in all who follow in his footsteps.
A funeral service for Rev. Romanuel Washington, Jr., DC, was held at the Windsor Village UMC Kingdom Builders Center (KBC) in Houston, Texas on Friday, April 21, 2023.
